My city, Catania, is famous in the world for our much beloved volcano, Etna (Europe's highest active volcano), and for the predominant “Barocco” (Baroque) style in the architecture.

The city still preserves is noble past, with an important presence of Greek/Roman archeological sites that have survived to Etna’s bad moods, a Gothic castle built by Sicily's king and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, beautiful churches, Via Crociferi (an Unesco heritage street for the quantity of churches) and a stunning monastery ( Benedettini, 2nd in Europe in terms of size) that nowadays hosts the University of Catania (1434) , the oldest university in Sicily, the 13th oldest in Italy, and the 29th oldest university in the world.

Catania was also homeland to worldwide recognized writers and musicians, among them, Vincenzo Bellini and Giovanni Verga.

Sangiorgi's family

My ancestor Mario Sangiorgi was the founder of an important theatre of my city realized in "Liberty" style.

His brother, Alfredo Sangiorgi, was a worldwide famous pianist.

Mario's son, Guglielmo Sangiorgi, was an actor.

Barbagallo's family

Barbagallo 的家族是二战后卡塔尼亚蓬勃发展的经济中最成功的家族之一。这是我的祖父安东尼诺·巴尔巴加洛。

Barbagallo's family has been among the most successful in Catania's booming economy after World War II. Here my Grandfather Antonino Barbagallo.

Rosalia Maggiore
